Man Sweat

A while back I read an interesting article entitled, “Why the Smell of a Man’s Armpit is a Turn-on” by Fiona Macrae. I found it especially intriguing because we as a cultured do so much to try to cover our natural scent.

According to the article, male sweat contains a compound called Androstadienone. Scientists say that just a few sniffs and a woman’s mood is lightened and her sexual arousal is raised.

I have no doubts about this at all. I’m not much into smelling armpits myself but my husband’s natural smell below is divine! A good manly scent is such a turn on and now I know that the smell affects me hormonally, physiologically, and psychologically according to the article. What a power packed punch!

Another interesting fact stated in the article is that women on the pill seem to be immune to the smell.

They did another interesting study where women were broken into two groups. One group rated photos of men and the second group rated the same photos but unbeknownst to them they were subjected to the smell of male sweat at the same time. The women in the second group rated the men much higher than the women in the first group. That study reminded me of the fact that women who are ovulating are more attractive to men. I wonder if there is a scent component to that as well.

Also mentioned in the article was that we use smell to find a good match. We want to find partners that smell very different from us, because that means a better match in regards to the immune system. It’s supposed to keep us from mating with those genetically close to us.

Here is my pitch to reduce all the unnecessary smells in our lives especially scented laundry detergent and dryer sheets. I personally hate to hug someone and get the stinky laundry detergent smell. It’s so egregious that it covers everything else.

This is probably TMI but I adore my husband’s smell and in fact if he has showered I’m not as turned on by his scent. I much prefer his smell by the end of the day!

Do you think you can be in love with someone whose smell you don’t like? As smell oriented as I am sexually, I know it wouldn’t work for me. What do you think?

Warm hugs,

Blakely

  1. The smell thing is not what does it for me. It is the sound of a man’s voice. It is a certain intonation that sends me over the edge. I have to hear them talk….And there I go….I know it’s strange. But, I suppose it is what makes the world go around!

    • Hi Cinnamon,

I don’t find that strange at all. You are clearly auditory. For some it’s sight, smell, sound and/or touch. A deep voice can be an incredible turn on to me as well. My husband is quite auditory. Thanks for the comment.

  2. I know as a fact that my husband smell turns me on. Even when he showers and puts on a nice cologne it is so arousal. I’ve at the experience where I’ve come across some men that have had a nice cologne and together with there own scent it has turn me on to the point where my husband has had to turn the fire off if you know what I mean.
